Kim, Michael. Guide pratique de la diction allemande conçu pour les chanteurs francophones du Québec. Publication Language: French. 40 pp. Publisher: Guérin http://www.guerin-editeur.qc.ca/guerin.html Contact: France Larochelle: mailto:france.larochelle@guerin-editeur.qc.ca This newly released book aims to help French-speakers in Québec learn the pronunciation of literary German, for the purpose of singing classical works. Presupposing no previous knowledge of German or phonetics, sounds prevalent in the French of Québec are compared to those of literary German. There is also an introduction to German metre and how it differs greatly from French metre, and examples of phonetic and metrical analysis of a variety of well-known texts. This work was designed to be very easy to use and technical jargon is kept to a minimum. The German pronuniciation used here is based on Sieb's standard work, "Bühnenaussprache" and other German diction manuals.
Magner, Candace A. Phonetic Readings of Brahms Lieder. Metuchen, NJ: Scarecrow Press, 1987. ISBN:0810820595 "This is the first pronunication guide to the German in every song composed by Johannes Brahms. Each line of German is presented with its pronunciation clearly spelled in IPA directly below. Included are 297 texts of Brahms lieder and folk songs, along with four appendices cross-referencing the poems by opus number, title, first line, and poet." Still in print, and a must-have for the serious lieder singer, coach or teacher of diction.
Magner, Candace A. Phonetic Readings of Schubert Lieder. Metuchen, NJ: Scarecrow Press, 1994. ISBN:0810829215 "This work provides a comprehensive pronunciation guide to all the German songs of Franz Schubert. Each line of German is presented with its pronunciation clearly spelled in IPA directly below. Continuing work begun with 'Phonetic Readings of Brahms Lieder,' the book is designed especially for teachers and students of singing who want perfection in their German diction. Included are nearly 600 texts of Schubert Lieder, along with ...appendices cross-referencing the poems by Deutsch (catalog) numbers, title, first line, and poet." An invaluable reference, and a labor of love from one of our own Diction Divas.

Publication Language: French. 40 pp. Publisher: Guérin http://www.guerin-editeur.qc.ca/guerin.html Contact: France Larochelle: mailto:france.larochelle@guerin-editeur.qc.ca TThe author states: this soon-to-be released book aims to help French-speakers in Québec learn the pronunciation of literary German, for the purpose of singing classical works. The German pronuniciation used here is based on Siebs' standard work, "Bühnenaussprache" and other German diction manuals.
